About The Position

The Science Teacher will support instructional services provided to scholars within a secure facility. In one class period, the Science Teacher will support scholars enrolled in multiple courses—including accelerated offerings—in the following content areas: Biology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Chemistry, and/or Anatomy & Physiology. The role requires flexibility and adaptability in planning and delivering instructional strategies to meet scholars' needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education or subject field (required)
• Must have or be eligible for initial certification by OSSE in the appropriate content area (must obtain initial certification within 1 year of employment)

Responsibilities

• Facilitate multi-grade, multi-content coursework for scholars in their units.
• Ensure timely delivery and grading of lessons.
• Adapt lessons to accommodate scholars' varied learning styles, abilities, and academic levels.
• Maintain a positive, structured learning environment for all scholars.
• Use restorative practices to support the academic and behavioral growth of scholars.
• Work closely with colleagues, leadership, and facility staff to ensure delivery of a well-rounded educational program.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss scholar progress, share strategies, and address academic and/or behavioral concerns.
• Communicate regularly with staff about scholar needs and achievements.
• Ensure high-quality instructional materials comply with organization, facility, district, and federal education regulations.
• Prepare reports (lesson plans, assessments, progress reports, gradebook, etc.) on time and in accordance with organizational guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned that may not directly align with your job description but are vital and serve to maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment for scholars and staff.
