About The Position

The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality science instruction to students in grades 6-8, in Middle School Science concepts and Earth Science. This role involves creating an engaging and dynamic learning environment that fosters students' curiosity and enthusiasm for science. The teacher will develop and implement a rigorous science curriculum that aligns with state standards and promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific literacy.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, a Virginia Teaching License in Middle School Science or Earth Science.
  • Proficiency in scientific concepts, laboratory techniques, and instructional strategies is essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively engage students, colleagues, and parents.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with advancements in science education is expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment strategies for middle school students is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with state standards and the school's curriculum goals.
  • Deliver engaging and interactive science instruction that incorporates hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and technology.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with special needs and English language learners.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and fosters a love of learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and address any academic or behavioral concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in science education.
  • Ensure the safety and proper use of laboratory equipment and materials.
