About The Position

The Science Teacher 6-8 position is located at Alma Middle School and reports to the Alma Middle School Principal. This is a 190-day contract position. The salary information can be found on the Alma School District website under State-Required info. The role involves planning and delivering engaging, standards-aligned science lessons for grades 6-8, incorporating scientific inquiry, experimentation, and real-world applications. The teacher will assess student progress, differentiate instruction, and create a positive classroom environment. Data-driven instruction, preparation for state assessments, and collaboration with colleagues are key aspects of this role. Communication with parents, participation in professional development, and support for student development are also required. The position includes classroom management, discipline, and the integration of technology and hands-on learning. Supervision of students during assigned duties is also part of the role, along with performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Valid Arkansas Teaching License in Middle School Science (Grades 4–8 or 7–12)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned science lessons for grades 6–8
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that incorporate scientific inquiry, experimentation, and real-world applications
  • Assess and monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities
  • Create a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Use data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes
  • Prepare students for state assessments (e.g., ATLAS) and ensure mastery of standards
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and improve instructional practices
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school activities
  • Support student development in academic, social, and behavioral areas
  • Maintain classroom management and discipline in accordance with district policies
  • Integrate technology and hands-on learning experiences into instruction
  • Supervise students during assigned duties (hallways, lunch, extracurricular activities)
  • Performs other duties as assigned
