About The Position

The Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) at The University of Texas at Austin is a leading geoscience program globally. This position will serve as a Science Project Manager for the JSG's Strategic Investment Programs (SIP). The SIPs are interdisciplinary research projects focused on significant, societally relevant geoscience topics, funded by the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) for a three-year period. The role is crucial in supporting faculty to advance SIP research by developing strategies for leveraging assets, disseminating research findings, and identifying new collaboration opportunities. The Science Project Manager will work closely with SIP leads and ADR office staff to ensure effective communication and issue resolution. This position is for 3 years, with a possibility of extension based on performance and funding.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. in Earth science or related field, or a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related work experience.
  • Experience in providing strategic direction for new research programs across geoscience disciplines.
  • Ability to manage and assimilate results of research projects and disseminate them to professional peers.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work within an integrated team of scientists, engineers, and economists in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for cross-SIP, -JSG and -UT campus collaboration to initiate new and leverage existing research activities.
  • Assist with identifying and engaging stakeholders and partners to ensure SIP research is relevant and impactful.
  • Help coordinate the development of white papers, articles, and other scientific publications.
  • Assist with providing regular updates to the Jackson School community, partners, stakeholders, and funders, which may include periodic newsletters.
  • Assist with managing the Advisory Board members and organizing meetings.
  • Assist with the logistics of recruiting early career researchers through scholarship programs supported by the SIPs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
