About The Position

Earthjustice's International Program is seeking graduate students for a part-time science externship in Spring 2027. This externship is designed for students who can receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement. The program partners with legal organizations globally to strengthen environmental, climate, and public health legal protections. Externs will gain insights into energy project impacts, international environmental litigation, and current research in fields like climate change and air quality. The successful candidate can work remotely within the U.S. or on a hybrid schedule from the San Francisco, CA office.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a graduate environmental science (or related field) program with an expected graduation date between May 2027 and May 2028.
  • Must be eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement through this externship.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and comfort navigating and learning new tools.
  • Outstanding research skills, including ability to conduct scientific literature reviews and basic quantitative data analyses.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex information to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Earthjustice’s values of Justice, Excellence, Inclusion, and Partnership.
  • Must commit to at least 10 hours/week for 12-16 weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze energy projects and policies and draft memos summarizing findings.
  • Support efforts to compile and synthesize work across geographical teams.
  • Occasionally help with key litigation tasks such as cite checking.
