About The Position

The Science Education Program at San José State University invites applications for a part-time lecturer position as a university supervisor to support preservice science teacher development. The Science Education Program is well positioned to meet the increasing demand for well-qualified and prepared science teachers in our community. The program is led by an interdisciplinary team of dedicated teacher-scholars recognized for their commitment to the preparation and ongoing support of justice-centered, socially responsive secondary science teachers. Our faculty work on the transformation of undergraduate science courses and student learning experiences, and they engage in innovative science education research uniting the College of Science with the Lurie College of Education. Science Education offers a Master of Science degree in Science Education that can be done separately or in conjunction with the teaching credential.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in any science or science education area or education focused field is required.
  • Hold a valid teaching credential (California clear credential or another state's equivalent).
  • Have 5 or more years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledgeable of the Next Generation Science Standards and active-based teaching practices.
  • Ability to teach and evaluate adult learners.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
  • US residence and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Satisfactory completion of background and reference checks (including criminal records and prior employment).

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity–including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation–through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
  • Organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Ensure all classes are offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid).
