About The Position

The Science Bound Program, in the School of Education and College of Health and Human Sciences, is seeking applicants for a Program Specialist II position. Science Bound is Iowa State’s premier pre-college through college program focused on increasing the number of Iowa youth who pursue careers in Agriculture, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (ASTEM), and education. The program currently serves more than 500 students and their families across four Iowa school districts (Denison, Des Moines, Marshalltown, and Osceola) and more than 160 students on the Iowa State University campus. The Program Specialist will develop, promote, coordinate, and deliver program services and activities across assigned districts. They will serve as the lead and/or co-lead for one to two districts and work collaboratively with Science Bound staff and teachers to support students and families. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both English and Spanish and possess strong communication, interpretation, and presentation skills, with the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in both languages. This position is based in Ames but requires travel to assigned district(s) approximately once per week for evening programming, as well as occasional Saturday programming held on campus, in-district, or virtually. During the summer, the Program Specialist will co-lead one to two ASTEM residential programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with the objectives of the university.
  • Plans, monitors, and manages an internal or external project from initiation through completion.
  • Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, and staffing for assigned program.
  • Monitors and manages budget and ensures that the program meets the overall objectives of the university.
  • Develops public relations initiatives, workshops, seminars, surveys, or other activities to promote the program and carry out its objectives.
  • Acts as a representative of the program.
  • Participates in project management.
  • May secure external funding as needed.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
  • Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
  • May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
