About The Position

The School's Out Counselor, Level 1, is responsible for assisting a site-specific School's Out Site Director in planning, supervising, and delivering programmed activities. This role works alongside Level 2 or higher personnel and does not work independently. The position focuses on creating a positive and welcoming learning environment through constructive interaction with students, staff, parents, and the school community.

Requirements

  • Must meet requirements for child labor, one or more years of HS or equivalent.
  • Some demonstrated experience working with younger children and/or customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, commit to tasks, and display enthusiasm.
  • Certified in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Second Step, Trained in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the daily operation of the afterschool program by interacting with students, staff, parents, and the school community in a constructive manner to create a positive, and welcoming learning environment.
  • Provides general supervision to students, ensuring guidelines for participation, inclusion, conduct, and discipline are followed to maintain a safe, enjoyable, learning environment.
  • Monitors student transitions and dismissal from activities.
  • Serves as a liaison and maintains relationships with students, school administrators, parents/guardians, volunteers, and community members.
  • Assists with the coordination and supervision of students during monthly field trips.
  • Attends meetings as needed.
  • Provides regular feedback to the Site Director about activities, recommended actions, needs, concerns, and highlights.
  • Reports incidents involving students and/or staff immediately to the School’s Out Site Director and/or Assistant Program Administrator.
  • Assists the Site Director in administrative processes including, but not limited to: attendance, data collection and entry, training staff, communications, activity planning, and performing enrollment procedures.
  • Participates in training and professional development, as determined appropriate, by the School’s Out Assistant Program Administrator.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
