Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing and eliminating interpersonal violence among young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice. KAVI focuses on community wellness and healing by implementing youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Brooklyn, operating in hospital-based, school, and community settings. They also engage in community strengthening and healing programs with various partners. KAVI is seeking qualified Social Work interns to work within Brooklyn-based public high schools. These interns will collaborate with students, school administration, and KAVI staff to foster supportive relationships, ensure continuity of care, and reduce conflict within the school environment. Interns will apply therapeutic practices, offer student support and interventions, and co-facilitate conflict resolution discussion groups alongside a School Violence Prevention Specialist. They will also integrate case assessment and advocacy for program participants. As part of the KAVI site team, interns will work with a School Violence Prevention Specialist and the School Programs Manager. With training and support, and using KAVI curricula, interns will develop and lead conflict resolution workshops, provide mediation and mentorship, and manage a small caseload of KAVI VIP participants. Workshops and sessions are conducted in person at the assigned KAVI School Site.
