About The Position

The River Valley School District currently has a full-time school security officer position available. This role is crucial in protecting students, staff, and district facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming school environment. The position emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement, and maintaining positive relationships within the school community.

Requirements

• Must complete a drug screening.
• Must possess current Act 235 Certification.
• Must provide current clearances (Act 34, 151, 114, and 126).
• Extensive experience working with security or law enforcement agencies.
• Must pass a background check prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide security for district facilities and adjacent properties.
• Serve as a member of the School Emergency Response Team.
• Patrol school buildings, grounds, parking areas, and surrounding property.
• Monitor building entrances and the arrival and dismissal of students and visitors.
• Provide security during athletic events, extracurricular activities, and other district events.
• Conduct routine walkthroughs and safety inspections of district facilities.
• Work collaboratively with building administrators to identify and address potential safety concerns.
• Assist in developing strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near school property.
• Respond appropriately to security concerns and emergencies and notify administrators and/or law enforcement when necessary.
• Work cooperatively with police, emergency responders, school administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
• Assist with the development and distribution of school safety and emergency response information.
• Maintain familiarity with school safety procedures, emergency response plans, and best practices.
• Participate in required and ongoing training related to school safety, security, weapons, emergency response, and other relevant areas.
• Support district safety initiatives and participate in annual safety activities and audits.
• Maintain a professional and positive relationship with students, staff, families, and members of the community.
