Position Summary: The School Security Coordinator is responsible for supporting and coordinating the overall safety and security operations of the school campus and district facilities. This position works collaboratively with administrators, staff, students, families, and community emergency partners to maintain a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment. The Security Coordinator oversees daily campus security operations, emergency preparedness planning, incident response coordination, and safety training initiatives while promoting positive relationships with students and staff. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership, professionalism, sound judgment, and a student-centered approach to school safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, security management, emergency management, military leadership, or related field.
  • Experience working with youth, schools, or educational environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency response procedures and school safety practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification - Colorado
  • High School or Equivalent (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Training in crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies.
  • CPR, First Aid, and emergency response certifications.
  • Familiarity with surveillance, access control, and security technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily campus security and safety operations.
  • Monitor and assess campus safety procedures and protocols.
  • Supervise and support school security personnel and contracted security staff.
  • Assist with access control, visitor management, and campus monitoring systems.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and identify potential vulnerabilities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
  • Coordinate and oversee safety drills including lockdowns, evacuations, reunification, and shelter-in-place procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency responders.
  • Support crisis response efforts during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Assist in identifying and responding to potential safety concerns and threats.
  • Promote proactive violence prevention and de-escalation practices.
  • Provide safety and security training to staff and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with school administration on safety initiatives and incident investigations.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.
  • Promote a positive and welcoming school climate while ensuring campus safety.
  • Maintain accurate records, incident reports, and safety documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, state laws, and school safety regulations.
  • Assist with safety audits and required reporting procedures.
  • Watch for disturbances, fights, unauthorized visitors, or criminal activity.
  • Assess danger and call for assistance if necessary; intervene to halt or prevent fights, disturbances, or other incidents.
  • Diffuse threatening or confrontational situations between students or others to ensure order is restored and students are unharmed.
  • Monitor visitor access during school hours to ensure only authorized persons enter to maintain a safe and secure campus.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Monitor and supervise students’ activities at assigned locations in the building and/or on the grounds and enforce parking regulations.
  • Issue verbal warnings, written warnings, or parking summonses as appropriate to promote a safer learning environment.
  • Enforce Student Conduct and Discipline Code and other school rules and regulations; administer warnings to students or refer them to building administrators for disciplinary action as necessary to maintain a peaceful environment.
  • Assist law enforcement and District Security with enforcement of school District policies on controlled substances and mitigation strategies to promote a drug-free school environment.
