About The Position

The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking applicants for the School Resource Officer position in the School Resources Division. A School Resource Officer acts as a liaison between school administrators, faculty, and students with social agencies and programs available within the community. An officer serving in the role of a SRO is expected to build and maintain relationships with students, school personnel, parents, co-workers and their immediate supervisors. In this role, a School Resource Officer must provide a high level of visibility and maintain a proactive approach to deterring criminal behavior on school property. This position also requires good judgement and excellent communication skills.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Must be out of the 12-month law enforcement probationary period.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the following: Oral Interview, Background Check, Polygraph Examination and Drug Screening.
  • Candidate must successfully complete 40 hours of SRO Training.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years’ experience with duties closely related to the School Resource Officer position, already certified as a SRO or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Associates or Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint Experience)

Responsibilities

  • Assembles required documents and information as needed for the School Resource Division.
  • Obtains and maintains certifications applicable for the position.
  • Reports to duty on time and has regular attendance.
  • Maintains the confidence and trust of students, peers, school staff, superiors and the general public.
  • Carries out any or all other duties as directed by the Sheriff or his designee.
  • Attends training that is relevant to the School Resource Officer position (local and out of state).
  • Uses discretion effectively to determine a proper course of action consistent with the Alamance Burlington School System policies and the department’s mission and values.
