About The Position

AHRC New York City is seeking a School Psychologist for its AHRC Middle/High School located in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. This full-time position is for a 10-month program with an additional 30-day summer session. The role involves interviewing families, studying case histories, administering and interpreting psychological tests to diagnose disorders, and formulating treatment plans. The School Psychologist will provide counseling to students and families, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, supervise psychology interns, conduct staff and family training, perform functional assessments, implement behavior support plans, ensure compliance with regulations, and maintain records. Bilingual candidates are expected to translate and communicate fluently in another language. The position also involves membership in department-wide committees and providing services ethically and legally.

Requirements

Masters or PhD in a clinical or treatment field of psychology from an accredited institution of higher education.
School Psychologist certificate, license, or registration.
Ability to work effectively with staff and students with developmental disabilities.
Knowledge of developmental disabilities and appropriate therapeutic intervention techniques.
Ability to communicate and develop cooperative working relationships with staff, families and other agencies.
Excellent oral and written skills in English.
Good problem solving and decision making skills.
Ability to establish and maintain statistical and data records pertaining to stated responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Interviews families and studies medical and social case histories.
Selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, achievement, interest, personality, and other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment.
Treats psychological disorders and adaptive delays to effect improvement and provides counseling to students and/or families.
Selects approach to use in individual counseling, such as directive, non-directive, and supportive counseling and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of counseling.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary and child/student study teams in developing treatment programs for students.
Provides support and supervision to psychology interns.
Provides in-service training and workshops for staff and for families.
Provides counseling for families.
Conducts a functional assessment in consultation with the child study team, designs, implements, and oversees behavior support plans for students.
Performs all duties necessary for compliance and relevant regulations governing service provision, including record-keeping.
If bi-lingual, must be able to translate, write reports, and speak fluently with parents and/or students in their preferred language.
Member of various department wide education and / or agency committees.
Provides services to students in a legal and ethical manner.
