About The Position

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) is seeking a School Psychologist to provide services within an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe, and healthy educational environment. This role supports the academic and personal success of students in Lunenburg and Queens Counties. The SSRCE actively encourages applications from under-represented groups, including those of African Nova Scotian, African Canadian, African ancestry, and Mi'kmaw/Indigenous ancestry.

Requirements

  • Registered with NS Board of Psychology
  • Graduate degree in psychology
  • Extensive training and experience in psychology
  • The ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment
  • Advanced technological skills
  • The ability to conduct presentations based on current best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to introduce a positive influence to initiatives.
  • The ability to contribute to region initiatives.
  • The ability to apply psychological knowledge to support student mental health, academic achievement and overall well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Provides consultation services, including collaborating with school/Region personnel on Trauma Informed Practices, and with school personnel, parents/guardians, and outside agencies to meet student needs.
  • Provides parents/guardians with specific information about their child’s development and its relationship to typical child development.
  • Consults with teachers, parents, and community groups on various topics such as specific disorders, assessment results interpretation, and understanding student strengths and needs in relation to classroom functioning.
  • Consults in the program planning process to make appropriate recommendations and plans for students.
  • Consults with teachers on effective classroom management.
  • Assists educators in interpreting psychological reports from outside agencies.
  • Provides professional development for school staff as necessary.
  • Remains current in best practices related to consultation.
  • Provides assessment services, including observation in various settings, interviewing, collecting relevant data, performing informal and formal standardized testing, interpreting results, and writing comprehensive reports.
  • Remains current in best practices related to assessment.
  • Provides intervention services, including planning and implementing interventions for students with behavioral and/or academic problems.
  • Collaborates with program planning teams to develop adaptations, Individual Program Plans (IPPs), and transition plans.
  • Delivers supportive programs for students' social-emotional skills, self-regulation, and achievement.
  • Offers crisis intervention at the school/region level.
  • Supports school personnel and parents/guardians in implementing recommendations and plans.
  • Provides short-term personal counseling to students.
  • Develops strategies/interventions for classroom management.
  • Remains current in best practices related to intervention.
  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
