About The Position

The School Psychologist will oversee and implement the Special Education evaluation process, chair Special Education meetings, provide counseling services according to IEPs, and offer support to staff and parents to promote student learning and adjustment. This role involves extensive testing, assessment, report writing, and participation in the MTSS process. The psychologist will also serve as a team chairperson for meetings, monitor compliance with special education regulations, and maintain accurate and confidential student records. Additionally, the position requires collaboration with internal and external agencies, participation in curriculum development, and a commitment to professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and implement the Special Education evaluation process for all students at the assigned school location.
  • Chair Special Education initial and re-evaluation meetings, as well as other assigned meetings.
  • Provide counseling services in accordance with assigned students' IEPs.
  • Provide appropriate support, information, and assistance to staff and parents to promote successful student learning, growth, and personal and social adjustment.
  • Develop, oversee, and evaluate students at the assigned school location.
  • Interpret test results and their significance to students, parents, and staff.
  • Administer special tests and/or assessment instruments to individual students as needed for diagnostic or planning purposes.
  • Write testing reports in accordance with special education regulations and district needs.
  • Participate in the school's STAT (MTSS) process, making suggestions around interventions and potential referrals for evaluation.
  • Provide counseling services to assigned students in accordance with their IEP requirements.
  • Design and implement counseling activities for students to promote an understanding of their aptitudes, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Use all available and appropriate resources in meeting student needs.
  • Provide follow-up regarding decisions and previously made intervention plans.
  • Provide informational and counseling assistance to parents and students as requested.
  • Preside over Initial and Reevaluation TEAM meetings, ensuring all participate, notes are maintained, and process/paperwork is complete.
  • Monitor timelines to ensure district compliance with special education requirements and mandates.
  • Help troubleshoot problems/issues with staff, parents, and other parties.
  • Keep current with special education law, mandates, and state policies and procedures.
  • Keep current with and implement district special education policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the maintenance of complete and accurate records concerning each special education student in conjunction with state and federal regulations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of files and information to ensure the safety and confidentiality of the information, and to assure ready access by authorized personnel.
  • Participate in the district crisis team as needed.
  • Participate with faculty and administrators in the development and review of the school's curriculum and instructional program as appropriate.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Special Education.
  • Assist in the location of outside referral agencies that may be needed to help a student with school or personal adjustment.
  • Maintain effective contact with outside agencies that serve students and their parents (e.g., courts, probation officers, welfare workers, private counselors).
  • Assist students, teachers, and parents in locating and using available information and resources within the SPED office.
  • Meet with teachers, administrators, and specialists to discuss the problems and progress of individual students (Special Education PLC meeting).
  • Aid the faculty and staff in the interpretation and use of information in student SPED records.
  • Attend professional events and conferences as permitted or directed.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of counseling and special education.
  • Incorporate constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement in performance made by supervisor(s).
