About The Position

The School Programs Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a variety of educational programs for school groups, summer camps, and community outreach. This role involves curriculum development, staff and volunteer supervision and training, program evaluation, budget management, and collaboration with various museum departments and external partners. The coordinator will ensure programs align with educational standards and meet community needs, while also contributing to the museum's mission through exceptional customer service and effective communication.

Requirements

Master's degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of informal science education best practices
At least 5 years of natural history museum program development experience
Experience developing and implementing innovative camp programs
Experience delivering community science-based programs
Administrative and supervisory skills
Experience in effectively working with complex teams and managing projects
Must be an excellent communicator and facilitator
Fully Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in natural history, education, biological sciences, environmental sciences, museum studies, or a related field; and demonstrated knowledge of natural history.
The strongest candidates for this position will have experience with and passion for innovation, a strong teamwork orientation, extensive knowledge of and passion for natural history, knowledge of current trends/opportunities in informal science education, and the ability to envision/fund/implement strategic goals.

Responsibilities

Develops and conducts programs for school groups that align with the Florida Sunshine State Standards.
Develops, coordinates, and oversees the design and delivery of Museum summer camp programs, including curriculum development, schedules, themes, and age-appropriate learning experiences.
Develops and conducts outreach programs that support the needs of the community.
Seeks input and assistance with program development from museum staff, scientists, and volunteers.
Develops and implements teacher training workshops in coordination with the Education Director and School Program staff.
Coordinates revision of existing school, outreach, and camp programming based on current information and program evaluations.
Communicates with area schools, teachers, and families regarding program offerings and educational needs.
Monitors community needs, school demographics, and seasonal demand for youth programming, including camps.
Supervises school program staff, camp staff, and volunteers.
Recruits, schedules, and coordinates staffing for school programs, outreach programs, and summer camps.
Provides regular communication, professional development opportunities, and recognition activities for school program and camp staff and volunteers.
Coordinates daily implementation of school programs, outreach programs, and camps, including staff and volunteer scheduling.
Trains staff and volunteers to deliver school, outreach, and camp programs effectively and safely.
Develops training and enrichment programs for volunteer staff in coordination with the Volunteer Coordinator.
Develops and uses evaluation techniques for paid and volunteer staff in coordination with the Education Director and Volunteer Coordinator.
Develops and uses evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of school, outreach, and summer camp programs.
Develops and maintains systems for inventory, storage, maintenance, and replacement of program and camp equipment and materials.
Develops and monitors program and camp budgets.
Maintains tracking systems for school programs, outreach programs, and camps, including participation numbers and demographic information.
Provides analysis of program and camp data on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Assists the Education Director in identifying and pursuing grants, sponsorships, and other funding opportunities to support school, outreach, and camp programming.
Stays current on educational and scientific information through professional development and professional memberships.
Seeks and develops meaningful partnerships with organizations in coordination with Education staff.
Responds to informational requests through email, telephone, and in-person visits.
Delivers exceptional customer service to all Museum guests and internal staff.
Serves as a liaison between Education Programs staff, Exhibits staff, researchers, and Visitor Services to support effective delivery of School Programs and summer camp experiences.
Coordinates with PR/Marketing and Graphics staff to support communication and promotion of school programs and camps.
Represents School Programs and summer camps in internal meetings and cross-departmental projects as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned in support of School Programs, Exhibits and Public Programs, and the broader mission of the Florida Museum, as requested by the Director of Education.
