About The Position

This is a School Principal position responsible for implementing and maintaining the student support services program and services in conformance with our charter school objectives. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of N.C. Law and Regulations for public schools, budget development, and implementation of standards based on curriculum and education reform models. Reasonable accommodations may be made to those who are able to perform the essential duties of the job. Candidates must be able to pass any required drug test and undergo a background investigation.

Requirements

  • Master level degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a field of concentration in school administration.
  • At least five years of successful work experience in the field of education.
  • Two years of supervisory capacity experience in the field of education.
  • Knowledge on N.C. Law and Regulations for public schools.
  • Knowledge of budget development.
  • Knowledge of implementation of standards based on curriculum and education reform models.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass any required drug test.
  • Must provide a written negative drug screening test to HR prior to being hired.
  • Background investigation required.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the school-wide effectiveness in program areas by monitoring the implementation of curriculum/performance standards.
  • Develops goals and standards that support the instructional philosophy of Thomas Academy.
  • Integrates data from school-wide testing programs and supervisory teacher field observations into comprehensive needs statements for the assigned area of responsibility as a basis for development of school-wide strategic action plans to implement curriculum and program standards.
  • In the instructional areas, directs the systematic review of curriculum/performance/program standards, and methodology for the program area and identifies training needs in the area of responsibility.
  • Trains curriculum coaches, teachers and para-professionals in the methods for implementing and maintaining effective instruction and assessment both in the existing curriculum and in initiatives for curriculum improvement.
  • Provides information to the CEO regarding program needs, status, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Represents Thomas Academy in meetings at various agencies including IEP meetings, workshops and conferences relating to the areas of educational expertise.
  • Monitors the quality of program services to ensure compliance with professional quality assurance standards and set forth by Thomas Academy.
  • Ensure full implementation of the Teaching Family Model of Care in Thomas Academy.
  • Implement the instructional program.
  • Demonstrate educational leadership.
  • Supervise the Thomas Academy staff.
  • Provide public relations and community involvement.
  • Manage the physical plant of Thomas Academy.
  • Manage the business and financial matters related to the daily operation of Thomas Academy.

  • Supervise and evaluate all Thomas Academy staff.
  • Coordinate staff development of Thomas Academy.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings of Thomas Academy.
  • Ensure student progress reporting meetings are held regularly.
  • Work with the CFO and CEO to develop Thomas Academy’s annual budget.
  • Oversee all financial transactions, including payroll.
  • Assist in creating a positive influence in the community.
  • Submit reports to the Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ensure compliance with all administrative rules and regulations.
  • Provide for the efficient operation of Thomas Academy.
  • Ensure annual performance appraisal reviews are done timely and sent to Human Resources.
  • Provide regular reports to Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure compliance with program compliance policies, procedures and BGHNC policies.
  • Coordinate with Director of Training & Evaluation in best practice of TFM trainings and any other required trainings that can be done in house.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the CEO.
  • Participate in staff/team meetings.
  • Review and submit all documentation in a timely manner, i.e. timesheets, required reports, admissions documents, progress notes, incident reports, staff development plans, etc.
  • Work with Supervisor, Chief Finance Officer and Chief Safety Officer to ensure safety and cleanliness of facilities and address needs as indicated in staff meetings.
  • Address reported staff grievances in accordance with procedures.
  • Work with internal departments to ensure programs needs are met.
  • Work with external entities to ensure client needs are met, i.e. schools, medical providers, placement entities, DSS, families, court system, etc.
  • Participate in New Employee Orientation and Pre-Service regarding the programs and services of BGHNC.
  • Regularly assess the program training needs in coordination with the Director of Training & Evaluation and program directors and managers.
  • Communicate appropriate information about the agency mission, vision, values, and strategic direction as it relates to residential programs and services.
  • Complete all performance appraisals of staff supervises timely.
  • Work closely with HR to ensure all paperwork is turned in timely for personnel files.
  • Give leadership to the recruiting, hiring, and discharging of employees.
  • Monitor staff schedule.
  • Maintain communication with staff.
  • Monitor staff performance.
  • Evaluate the current and on-going competency of employees.
  • Ensure team productivity/functioning.
  • Conduct employee grievance hearings.
  • Develop coaching plans.
  • Provide and coordinates new employee orientation in conjunction with Human Resource.
  • Assess and coordinate Thomas Academy training needs.
  • Provide and coordinate in-service staff training, as needed.
  • Encourage and coordinate professional growth of staff.
  • Participate in community activities (civic groups, church, school, etc.) that afford the opportunity to represent and/or speak on behalf of the agency.
  • Ensure public is greeted in an open and friendly manner by all staff.
  • Provide and participate in consumer/volunteer presentations.
  • Network with corporate community as opportunities arise.
  • In consultation with Director of Marketing and Communications, develop branding/marketing printed and video materials that highlight the programs and services of Thomas Academy and BGHNC.
  • Understand specific program philosophy and mission.
  • Implement specific program design and structure.
  • Monitor all safety concerns for youth and staff.
  • Monitor "best practices" in education.
  • Develop and expand specific program philosophy.
