About The Position

The School of Health Sciences and Wellness (SHSW) is seeking a full-time Outreach Specialist to serve as the forward-facing representative of the school and its academic programs. This role is crucial for engaging with new and existing community partners in business and healthcare to offer high-impact practices that enhance student learning. The Outreach Specialist will play a key role in recruiting, retaining, and graduating students. The position reports to the Student Success Center Director in the SHSW and requires in-person work on the main campus. The SHSW offers 7 undergraduate majors, 7 graduate degree programs, and several certificate programs, serving approximately 1200 students. The Student Success Center focuses on student engagement, academic performance, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of the academic and co-curricular requirements of students attending a comprehensive university (this can be quantified with possessing a bachelor’s degree, having worked within higher education, etc.)
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in one or more of the following: planning outreach program events, community partnerships and networking, business-community relations, event planning and promotion
  • Progressive record of professional work experience
  • Ability to work independently, plan and organize complex tasks, problem solve, establish priorities, complete multiple concurrent tasks, and maintain a balance between details and the big picture.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders in a professional manner. These stakeholders include faculty, administrative staff, donors, business and community partners, students, and parents
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills including active listening

Responsibilities

  • Planning outreach program activities
  • Developing and strengthening partnerships with internal and external programs
  • Facilitating student learning experiences for students in the SHSW
  • Serving as the forward-facing representative of the school and academic programs to community partners
  • Assisting with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • Developing and evaluating curriculum and programs and providing recommendations for improvement
  • Identifying, promoting, and maintaining external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • Researching, developing, and facilitating outreach program content and materials
  • Delivering outreach program content and materials to community members
  • Leading the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • Scheduling and securing resources and communicating logistics in support of an outreach program
