This is a permanent (continuing faculty status) professional track position in journalism and sports media with an emphasis on editorial content in news and sports. The role includes responsibilities in research, writing, editing, photography, videography, podcasting, social media, and other forms of mass media communication. The position involves teaching 8 to 9 classes per academic year in the journalism and sports media sequence, potentially the School of Communications core, electives, and graduate courses. Specific teaching assignments will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and School needs. The role also includes involvement in the Daily Universe and Universe Lab newsrooms and the news and sports media profession. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in news and sports research, reporting, and production of editorial content for online, magazine, and documentary video. Faculty are expected to follow established curricula and assist in assessing teaching effectiveness to accomplish program outcomes. In addition to teaching, faculty responsibilities include citizenship and mentoring students on creative works. The successful candidate will maintain a productive student-mentoring agenda and actively participate in School, College, and University committees and other activities. Appointment will be at assistant or associate professor rank according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
