About The Position

This position is responsible for preparing, cooking, serving, and storing food in accordance with accepted institutional procedures and Health Department Requirements. The role also involves adhering to all meal accountability procedures, including cashiering. The School Nutrition Assistant will follow daily production schedules, prepare recipes as written, clean utensils and equipment, dispose of garbage, and mop assigned floor areas. They will utilize left-over food as directed by the manager and store all food items properly. Maintenance and proper use of equipment as trained, and adherence to approved instructions for chemical use are also key responsibilities. The role requires adherence to Federal, State, and Local policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as Classified Employees Work Rules and School Nutrition Personnel and Uniform Standards. The position also involves demonstrating the ability to improve job-related skills, taking pride in serving students, and maintaining confidentiality of all information concerning students and staff. Completion of all required training, including annual local training and 30-hour Orientation for Nutrition Employees, is mandatory. The assistant will also perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE), preferred.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be at the physical worksite.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in conditions with extreme cold or heat.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Some kneeling required.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
