About The Position

Sunshine Staffing is seeking licensed practical nurses (LPNs) for a school clinic nursing position. The role supports students’ health and well-being by providing nursing care, health education, health screenings, and coordination with families, school staff, and community health and social service agencies. The nurse also contributes to the administration and improvement of the school health program, maintains health records and supplies, and performs other LPN duties as assigned.

Requirements

Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license for the state in which the nurse practices.
Full command of spoken and written English.
Current Health Certificate, if applicable.
Current PPD or chest X-ray.
Current BLS card.
Successful completion of screening tests for the clinical specialty area(s) in which the nurse practices.
Considerable knowledge of medical disorders, treatments, and child growth and development.
Working knowledge of public health problems and treatment procedures coordinated with health and social service agencies.
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting school health services.
Ability to identify abnormal growth and development and symptoms of disease.
Ability to develop and maintain student health records and positive working relationships.

Nice To Haves

One year of prior LPN experience is preferred.
Some knowledge of the school organization and the community served.

Responsibilities

Develop policies, procedures, and work standards for the school health program.
Monitor the school health program’s compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
Initiate program changes as needed and manage program allotment efficiently.
Prepare health reports for the supervisor, board of education, and health department.
Collaborate with child-support agencies to design and provide a school health program.
Negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program.
Provide first aid and medically prescribed services.
Maintain the security of school health supplies.
Instruct students in health education according to the state K–12 curriculum.
Serve as a resource person on health issues and provide health-related staff development for school staff and volunteers.
Screen students and staff and conduct health appraisals.
Provide follow-up evaluations for students as required and recommend corrective action when problems are identified.
Conduct home visits when appropriate and correspond with parents about children’s health needs.
Record immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
Coordinate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources.
Perform other LPN duties as assigned.
