About The Position

This position is for a School Nurse at the Elementary Level for Millard Public Schools. The nurse will be responsible for delivering health services at the building level in accordance with district guidelines and policies. The role requires excellent communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. The nurse must know and comply with district policies, state laws, and regulations regarding school health and nursing services, practicing professional nursing according to the Nurse Practice Act of Nebraska. This role involves serving as a consultant, managing health screenings, overseeing medication administration, developing health care plans, maintaining records, supervising the health office, and training health care paraprofessionals. The nurse will also act as a liaison between various stakeholders and contribute to the development of school nursing practice.

Requirements

  • RN Certification or Licensure
  • Valid Nebraska License as a registered nurse
  • Valid current CPR Certificate
  • Possess skills necessary to perform responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nursing of children and adolescents highly desirable.
  • Experience as a school nurse or pediatric nurse preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Knows and complies with district policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Knows and complies with state laws, regulations, and recommendations regarding school health and nursing services.
  • Practices professional nursing in the school setting according to the parameters and definitions of the Nurse Practice Act in the State of Nebraska.
  • Serves as a consultant to students, parents, teachers, administrators and others.
  • Plans, implements, and collects data through health screening program including referrals for professional evaluation and diagnosis.
  • Provides professional supervision, direction and monitoring for the medication administration program and assures the competency of unlicensed persons who provide medications to students at school in accordance with the Medication Aid Act and within the scope of practice of the professional Registered Nurse.
  • Develops and implements individualized health care plans for all students as needed and supervises their care.
  • Maintains accurate health records, reports and documentation.
  • Supervises the activities of the school health office in a professional manner, assuring quality practice, accountability, confidentiality and accuracy of documentation.
  • Promotes appropriate skills development, communication and teamwork in a positive working relationship with other building employees and health room team.
  • Participates in building committees as a nursing/health professional.
  • Serves as a liaison between physicians, community agencies, families and school personnel and students.
  • Supervises and trains health care para-professionals.
  • Contributes to the development of school nursing practice by participation in nursing organizations, staff development, health services teams and committee activities.
  • Mandatory and punctual attendance at School Nurse Meeting, Team meetings, and Committee Meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services, the district head nurse and the building administration.
