K-12 School Nurse (temporary contract position)
About The Position
Vanguard Classical School is seeking a passionate and dedicated School Nurse to join their team. This is a temporary contract position at a free public charter school in Colorado committed to providing a transformative educational experience rooted in the Core Knowledge Curriculum Sequence, delivered in the classical style. The School Nurse will play a pivotal role in empowering students, fostering positive growth, and contributing to a nurturing environment. The school offers comprehensive support services for the holistic development of students. Students attend classes four days a week. The School Nurse will work alongside educators to support students in navigating challenges.
Requirements
- Must be a licensed RN in Colorado.
- Requires obtaining a Special Service Provider License with the School Nurse Endorsement from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).
- New school nurses must apply with the Colorado Department of Education for an Initial Special Service Provider License.
- Registered Nurses with an active RN license may apply.
- Associate's or higher degree in nursing
- A valid RN license to practice in Colorado pursuant to the Nurse Practice Act (12-255-101, et. seq., C.R.S.) or a valid mulit-state license and able to practice in Colorado pursuant to the nurse licensure compact (24-60-3802, C.R.S.)
- Registered nurses must maintain an active DORA license to practice nursing in Colorado in addition to the CDE-issued special services license/school nurse.
- Those holding multi-state licenses issued by another state must apply for a Colorado DORA-issued RN license within 60 days, as per the Nurse License Compact.
- Provide documented evidence of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of the required criminal background clearance process.
Responsibilities
- Administering medications, providing first aid and emergency care, and managing chronic health conditions like asthma or diabetes.
- Train, and continuously supervise and evaluate unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) to assist the school nurse with the delivery of health services and medication administration, especially during field trips for students with medical concerns, through the nursing delegation process.
- Performing vision, hearing, and other screenings, and making appropriate referrals.
- Maintaining accurate student health records and immunization records.
- Communicating with parents, teachers, exceptional student support team members, and other healthcare professionals to ensure students receive appropriate care.
- Providing health education to students and staff, and developing and implementing health-related policies and programs.
- Participating in emergency response planning and training.
- Serving as a liaison between the school, students, families, and community healthcare providers.
