About The Position

The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) seeks a qualified candidate to join our faculty as a full-time School Nurse. The School Nurse is responsible for overseeing student health services and ensuring a safe and healthy school environment. This role manages student health records, ensures compliance with applicable state and local regulations, and provides direct care to students as needed. The School Nurse applies professional nursing knowledge and independent clinical judgment to assess student health needs, develop care plans, and respond to health-related concerns. Knowledge of Waldorf educational philosophy is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution or a minimum of three (3) years of licensed practical experience as a Registered Nurse working with school-aged children.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, or an active RN license from a state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Successful completion of required clinical field experiences and a supervised practicum through an accredited nursing program, including experience working with school-aged children in community health, public health, or school settings.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Graduates of nursing programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and respond to student health concerns, including providing care to ill or injured students and determining appropriate interventions.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized student health care plans (including 504 plans), exercising clinical judgment in care decisions.
  • Maintain and manage student health records, including immunization records, physician documentation, sports physicals, and health care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with state immunization requirements and applicable health regulations.
  • Collaborate with local and state health departments and stay current with public health guidelines.
  • Coordinate and deliver faculty and staff training, including CPR/AED, First Aid, Standard Precautions, and Medication Administration.
  • Oversee and implement the school’s Cardiac Emergency Response Plan.
  • Manage non-specific epinephrine in accordance with state laws and school policies.
  • Exercise independent professional judgment in daily health office operations and student care.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, and staff regarding health concerns and care plans.
