About The Position

This is a 1:1 full-time Nurse Liaison position working in cooperation with Child Serve and the Johnston School District. The role involves providing professional nursing services and aiding in the provision of educational experiences for a high school student with complex medical needs including a trach, vent, g-tube, and personal care requirements. The position offers a Monday-Friday school hours schedule (7 am-4 pm) with potential shifts available during summer/school breaks by floating through inpatient services.

Requirements

• Current valid license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Iowa
• Documentation of CPR/BLS certification
• 1 year nursing experience in a clinical setting
• Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing, and speaking the English language

Responsibilities

• Provide full range of nursing services as defined within nursing scope of practice, physician orders and Child Serve policies.
• Administer medications, feedings, and treatments within scope of practice.
• Deliver care to meet each child's daily care needs.
• Perform ongoing assessments as needed.
• Implement child's care plan.
• Monitor child's response to care and coordinate care with interdisciplinary team to ensure health and safety needs are addressed.
• Maintain accurate, completed and timely records as defined by standards of practice and Child Serve policies and procedures.
• Power chair management
• Effectively navigate the regulatory requirements between Child Serve and Johnston School District.
• Provide nursing procedures as delegated by school nurse.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records as defined by nursing standards of practice and Johnston School District.
• Work with a group of individual students in the daily routine of the classroom under the teacher's direction.
• Assist in the supervision of students in the classroom and other areas of the school facility.
• Ensure communication between school personnel and Child Serve personnel to coordinate medical needs of the children.
• Keep teacher and school nurse informed of all relevant student related matters.
• Oversee care delivery of paraprofessionals as direct by the School Nurse.
