About The Position

The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is seeking a full-time School Health Public Health Nurse II to join their team. This position is scheduled to work less than 12 months per year (approximately 46 weeks per year) and will be located at their Franconia Springfield location. The nurse will work in the school health program assigned to school sites, providing a variety of community services using a multi-disciplinary approach. Services include outreach, home/school visits, community assessment, health promotion, education, case finding, care coordination, and disease prevention for students, families, and communities. The role requires strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications, and participation in the training, supervision, and evaluation of unlicensed assistive personnel. This position is located at 6564 Loisdale Court, Springfield, VA and includes a $10,000 sign-on bonus for fully qualified new county employees.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing; plus, one-year post-licensure nursing experience.
  • Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • CPR certification (required within 30 days).
  • AED certification (required within 30 days).
  • Must complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, driving record check, tuberculosis (TB) test, and sanction screenings.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications).
  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle.

  • At least one year of supervisory experience or has demonstrated work experience monitoring and directing the work of others.
  • Bilingual in English and another language.
