About The Position

This position involves public health and community health nursing. The examination process includes an appraisal of training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness, with potential components including investigation, oral exams, and/or application rating. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 70% in each examination phase. The role requires maintaining a valid Registered Nurse license and a Basic Life Support (BLS) card. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list for appointment, with potential for both permanent and temporary positions. Candidates should be willing to travel to specified geographical locations within Kern County.

Requirements

  • Level I: Valid Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing AND valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse License issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Level I OR: Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California, Department Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing and possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university with coursework in public health or community health and application has been submitted to the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing for a Public Health Nurse Certificate.
  • Possess and maintain a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
  • Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Level II: Possession of a valid Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing AND two (2) years of public health and/or community health nursing experience.
  • Level II OR: Three (3) years of nursing experience may be substituted for the two (2) years of public health and/or community health nursing experience.
  • Possession of a valid and unrestricted California Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
  • A background check may be conducted.
  • Applicable materials such as transcripts/diploma and licenses must be attached to the application.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in public health or community health (for Level I if not holding PHN certificate initially).

Responsibilities

  • Provide public health and/or community health nursing services.
