About The Position

Provides public health nursing services and actions directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment, risk education and health status improvement for individuals, families, and the community.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nursing License (RN) as issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing
  • Current CPR certifications
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200 and 700.a to be obtained within six (6) months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree (four-year college or technical school): Required Field of Study: Nursing
  • Six (6) plus months of experience in public health or equivalent.
  • One registered nurse without a BSN is grandfathered into the position of public health nurse as per the classification series adopted by Greene County Board of Health Resolution #17-01-05-9.
  • Ohio Impact Statewide Immunization Information System (Impact SIIS) and Ohio Department of Health Gateway programs (e.g., Early Intervention Data System (EIDS), Medicaid A Claiming, MATCH, Ohio Comprehensive Home Visiting Integrated Data System (OCHIDS, AHLERS, etc.), Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and video conferencing training including Cisco WebEx, GoToMeeting, Zoom and Microsoft Teams to be obtained upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the needs of individuals, families, or communities, including assessment of individuals’ home or work environments, to identify potential health or safety issues.
  • Provides public health information to others either through formal training or informal communications in the most effective manner for that individual or group; distributes educational pamphlets, brochures, and booklets to the public; utilizes various types of communication to convey information.
  • Interview people to obtain health and program specific information; handle complaints, inquiries, and emergencies as required by state and health district protocol.
  • Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention, or childbirth and develop health improvement programs.
  • Work with individuals, groups, or families to plan or implement programs designed to improve the overall health of the community.
  • Follow federal, state, and local laws, regulations, rules and/or regulations, including HIPPA and grant requirements, and health district policies and procedures.
  • Perform client assessments by acquiring health and family histories and conducting routine medical tests and makes appropriate referrals; utilize a variety of nursing and counseling skills; provide client education; prepare and maintains patient records; perform laboratory and diagnostic workups, providing follow-up and referrals based on findings; instruct and counsels parents and clients regarding normal anatomy and physiology.
  • Use public health surveillance/disease investigation methods in community outreach, screening, and case finding of communicable and infectious disease and environmental health problems.
  • Assist in the initiation of enforcement or corrective action as required.
  • Use quality improvement (QI) and performance management (PM) processes and/or techniques to improve the effectiveness of environmental health programs and services including but not limited to creating, implementing, and evaluating performance standards and identifying, implementing, and assessing QI processes.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to Accreditation requirements and responding to emergency events.
