About The Position

ABM is seeking a reliable and experienced School Custodian to perform general cleaning duties in designated areas at a K-12 school, college, or university campus. This role may be suitable for someone entering or returning to the workforce, and on-the-job training is provided. No prior experience or high school diploma, GED, or college degree is required. The custodian maintains cleanliness across assigned areas, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways. Duties include floor care, waste and recycling collection, dusting and polishing, cleaning food areas and glass, maintaining restrooms, and performing incidental seasonal outdoor tasks. The employee follows procedures for cleaning chemicals and powered equipment, reports maintenance needs, communicates effectively with clients and coworkers, and complies with applicable safety, security, compliance, and quality standards.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.
No prior experience is required; on-the-job training is provided.

Nice To Haves

Prior customer service experience.
One year of prior similar work experience.
Military experience is encouraged; listed Military Occupational Specialty Codes are 92S, 92Y, LS, 3051, and 3F1X1.

Responsibilities

Clean and maintain assigned areas, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways.
Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in designated areas.
Check trash receptacles regularly and empty them as needed.
Follow procedures for using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Notify the lead cleaner or manager about needed minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with clients, coworkers, shift coordinators, supervisors, and managers.
Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles.
Clean and dust desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings, and walls.
Polish hard surfaces, including woodwork and stainless-steel surfaces.
Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food areas.
Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas, manually or with hand trucks.
Clean interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
Sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow, or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
Maintain restroom cleanliness, including cleaning and polishing as needed.
Comply with safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the company, clients, and regulatory authorities.
