About The Position

This is a part-time School Counselor position for the East Lake Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year. The School Counselor will promote the school system's counseling program by possessing the knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes necessary to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive, developmental, results-based school counseling program. This role involves providing system support through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs, as well as direct and indirect services with and for students. The counselor will provide responsive services through individual and small-group counseling, consultation, and referral skills, and implement the school counseling curriculum through effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured group sessions. The position also involves facilitating the delivery of counseling services through a comprehensive school counseling program, including conducting group counseling/advisement, coordinating with school staff for supportive classroom activities, assisting with standardized test interpretation, ensuring career and college readiness advisement, consulting with staff and parents, promoting community resources, advocating for equity, and engaging in professional development.

Requirements

Hold or be eligible for a Georgia Educator Certificate in School Counseling.

Must abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.

Responsibilities

Promote the school system's counseling program by planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive, developmental, results-based school counseling program.
Provide system support through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs.
Provide direct and indirect services with and for students.
Provide responsive services through individual and small-group counseling, consultation, and referral skills.
Implement school counseling curriculum through effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured group sessions.
Conduct group counseling/advisement with students in the areas of educational, career, and social-emotional needs.
Coordinate with local school staff to provide supportive instructional classroom activities related to student needs.
Assist with interpretation of standardized group testing.
Ensure all students receive appropriate career readiness advisement.
Ensure all students receive appropriate college readiness advisement.
Consult with school staff on student problems and concerns.
Consult with parents on student problems and concerns.
Promote the use of community resources in meeting student needs.
Advocate for equity of services for all students.
Engage in professional development activities and apply newly acquired professional knowledge.
Interact professionally with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
Be available to students, parents, and colleagues in accordance with system policies.
Facilitate home and school communication through conferences, telephone calls, and written communications.
Maintain confidentiality of students, records, parents, staff, and school business.
Work cooperatively with school administrators, teachers, other service personnel, and parents.
Model correct use of oral and written language.
Demonstrate accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content.
Conduct counseling activities at the scheduled time.
Support policies and regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
Be punctual.
Maintain plans as required by school policy.
Implement designated counseling core curriculum.
Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and report promptly.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities.
Comply with conditions stated in the individual’s employment contract.
Take precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assume responsibility for supervising students.
Provide students with information for postsecondary plans, financial aid, and scholarship information (for grades 6-12).
Plan and coordinate the advisement program for the school (for grades 6-12).
Evaluate transcripts and review records to advise students and faculty about course selections and placement (for grades 6-12).
Conduct an exit interview with students who are withdrawing from school (for grades 6-12).
Follow the system’s procedures in referring students to a local school support team.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
