About The Position
Located on the northeast side of Evanston, just down the street from Northwestern’s football and basketball stadiums (and just off the Metra and purple line L stops), St. Athanasius School, or St. A’s as it’s fondly known by our community, is a special place, one where we work together to foster community, faith, and academics. Our motto - Love, Learn, Lead - is central to our mission. Grades (K) 1 - 8 attend Mass together as a school community every Wednesday, and we come together K-8 biweekly/monthly for cross-grade level activities. This opportunity is for the 2026-2027 school year.
Requirements
- Master's or better in social work or related field.
Nice To Haves
- Illinois PEL School Support Endorsement
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
- Psychology license
- Experience in a school setting
Responsibilities
- Present school counseling classroom lessons
- Provide short-term counseling with students and referrals for long-term support
- Provide counseling (group, such as lunch bunch, or individual) to teach intervention strategies to increase academic success, conflict resolution, anger management or adjustment to school
- Collaborate with families/teachers/administrators/community for student success
- Advocate for students at student support meetings and other student-focused meetings
- Mobilize family, school, and community resources to enable students to learn as effectively as possible at school
- Collaborate with staff and the Resource Team to help students through direct support, in-services, or behavior management
- Assist with crisis intervention, de-escalation, consulting on serious events, and developing individual safety plans for students in need
