About The Position

The Anticipated School Counselor position at Bethel Park Elementary School is a Student Support Services/Guidance Counselor role. The essential functions involve developing and coordinating a school counseling program, focusing on each student's academic and personal-social development needs. This includes implementing a guidance curriculum, providing individual and small group counseling for social and emotional growth, crisis intervention, and assisting students with aptitude and ability evaluation. The role also involves coordinating services with community agencies, managing course scheduling, communicating with staff and parents, assisting with state-mandated testing, and participating in various student support meetings and processes like IEP, GIEP, Section 504, Child Study, and Student Assistance Program. Additional duties may be assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.

Requirements

  • PA State Certification as Elementary & Secondary School Counselor PK-12.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Successful prior teaching experience in music for the appropriate grade level preferred.
  • Most current Act 34, Act 151, Act 114, and Act 126 clearances if available.
  • If a current student in the process of completing your teaching program, upload your most current transcripts and a letter from your university indicating eligibility for certification in place of your PA teaching certificate and Praxis Scores.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and coordinates a school counseling program in conjunction with the Advisory Team.
  • Implements a guidance curriculum and responds to teacher invitations to provide classroom guidance lessons.
  • Provides individual or small group counseling toward social and emotional growth, new student orientation, at-risk assessment, and crisis intervention.
  • Provides goal-oriented counseling in systematic response to identified needs.
  • Maintains and updates the website and forms as required.
  • Plans, schedules, and delivers crisis education and response management; provides evening parent programs.
  • Coordinates services and makes referrals to community agencies.
  • Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data.
  • Provides in-service training in guidance for teachers.
  • Enters and tracks all data and scheduling related to cyber students.
  • Oversees course scheduling for all traditional, nontraditional, and learning support students and confers with parents and teachers to provide support whenever necessary.
  • Communicates with teachers and staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the department.
  • Assists with District preparation for state-mandated testing.
  • Participates in IEP, GIEP meetings or Section 504 service agreement meetings, as requested.
  • Participates in, coordinates, and maintains records on the Child Study process.
  • Participates in Student Assistance Program.
  • Monitors data on student progress relating to implementation of individualized instructional or behavioral interventions and assists with modifications when indicated.
  • Works in collaboration with others to resolve students' educational needs, including those related to IEPs and GIEPs.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
