About The Position

Monroe Middle School is seeking a dedicated School Counselor to provide comprehensive academic, career, and social-emotional support to its students. This role involves assisting students with course selection, scheduling, graduation planning, and post-secondary opportunities, while also supporting their educational and career goals. The counselor will play a key part in student intervention meetings, Section 504 meetings, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure student success. Responsibilities also include monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate records, and supporting school-wide initiatives aimed at improving student achievement, attendance, behavior, and school climate. The position requires active participation in professional development and district/building meetings.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community agencies.
  • Knowledge of graduation requirements, post-secondary planning, career readiness, and social-emotional supports.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information appropriately.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Michigan School Counselor credential preferred.
  • Candidates who do not currently hold a valid Michigan School Counselor credential may be considered, provided they are willing to enroll in an approved school counseling program during the fall of 2026.
  • The selected candidate must obtain the coursework and endorsement requirements necessary for Michigan school counselor certification within two years of hire.
  • Experience working with middle school students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention and referrals to community resources when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate student records and counseling documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Support building initiatives related to student achievement, attendance, behavior, and school climate.
  • Participate in professional development and district/building meetings as assigned.
