About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking a School Counsellor. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program with a focus on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students and 375 children in pre-primary programs across 14 locations. The jurisdiction covers Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond counties in northeastern Nova Scotia. This position is a permanent contract role. Applicants applying for more than one position must rank their applications in order of preference. Teachers hired or recalled into new positions will be required to participate in a New Teacher Training if they have not already done so. As a condition of employment, employees must provide a current (within 6 months) and clear Child Abuse Registry & Criminal Record-Vulnerable Sector check prior to hire. Requirements

  • Valid teacher certification for the Province of Nova Scotia.
  • Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition.
  • Excellent classroom and student management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies.
  • Masters in Counselling.
  • Meet the Department of Education Provincial Guidance/Counselling Program 2008 May requirements.
  • Completion of graduate level courses in: Individualized Counselling Theory and Practice, Group Counselling Theory and Practice, Assessment or Testing, Career Theory and Practice, Professional Practice Issues and Ethics, and University Faculty Supervised On-Site Practicum.
  • All Graduate level courses within the program specific to counselling skills and practices must be completed in class, face to face, with a faculty counsellor educator.
  • Eligibility of Certification within the field, as established by the Canadian Counselling Association.
  • Application must include at least three (3) work-related references, one must be your most recent supervisor.
  • Provide current (within 6 mos.), and clear Child Abuse Registry & Criminal Record-Vulnerable Sector check prior to hire.
