About The Position

In order to maintain a fully staffed transportation department, Charlotte Country Day strives to keep a pool of qualified bus drivers. Candidates will be contacted in the event that the school requires a part-time or full-time employee. Applicants without the required class B endorsement P-S CDL may email the Transportation Supervisor at [email protected] for information on obtaining the required CDL. (Only applicants with the required CDL may complete the online application.) The bus driver position, under the supervision of a manager or supervisor, operates a bus over designated routes transporting school students, or clients to and from school or other locations. In addition, a bus driver may transport students, teachers, staff and/or parents on school sponsored trips. Bus drivers may work with loud and disruptive clients.

Requirements

  • Clean driving record
  • Certified school bus driver with class B endorsement P-S
  • Friendly, out-going, pleasant.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations and schools.
  • Transport school students, teachers, staff and/or parents on school activity trips.
  • Perform daily inspections of buses and associated equipment prior to transportation of passengers.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among school students or clients.
  • Follow company policies regarding student/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, staff, and the public in general.
  • As requested by the Facilities and Plant Manager or Supervisor, verify route turn for turn sheets and note any route changes with written notes.
  • As requested by the Facilities and Plant Manager or Supervisor, make additional directional or landmark notations on bus route sheets to assist future new or substitute bus drivers.
  • As requested by the Facilities and Plant Manager or Supervisor, observe and track route timing, such as total time en-route; time between stops; loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency.
  • Keep records and submit reports as required.
  • Sweep, clean and refuel buses.
  • Report all mechanical deficiencies promptly.
  • Advise students on safe riding instructions and perform evacuation drills as directed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
