About The Position

Helen Keller Services (HKS) is expanding its Children's Learning Center to two new locations in Nassau and Suffolk County, Long Island. These facilities will serve preschool children with various disabilities. HKS is seeking a Full-Time Registered Nurse for its Children's Learning Center in Islandia, NY. The School Nurse will be responsible for the health and safety of approximately 60 special education preschoolers.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in Nursing (required)
Strong technical skills including MS Office, Outlook, school related applications (required)
Valid and current NYS RN license (required)

Experience working in school setting, particularly given to OCFS experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

Assess students daily for illness, injury, and health concerns. Maintain daily student log in accordance with OCFS Licensure and NY State Guidance.
Provide care, including minor first aid and medication administration (as authorized).
Follow NY State guidelines to determine when children are not permitted in the building due to illness in accordance with school policies and health guidelines.
Monitor students with chronic health conditions and implement individualized health care plans.
Review and assess all medical documentation of new and continuing students for completion and compliance with regulatory agencies of New York.
Manage treatments and medications for students, prescribed by medical professionals with prior written authorization and Rxs.
Ensure all medical documentation complies with OCFS regulations and school policies.
Monitor immunization records, physical examinations, medication authorizations, and other required health documentation.
Maintain confidentiality of student health information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Advise parents, School Principal, social worker, or other appropriate health professionals when a student might need a more specialized level of care.
Gain an understanding through formal in-person assessment of each child and dialogue with the student’s parents, building administrators, and other medical professionals to determine appropriate classroom placement and need for health care supports.
Disseminate communication as needed related to OCFS/communicable diseases through the platform and email.
Maintain New York State certification/licensure by remaining current with pediatric medical research via continuing education opportunities.
Expand skills and knowledge to meet the growing needs of students who are now attending school with more complex and chronic health needs.
Attend ongoing professional development workshops and seminars.
Provide trainings to the Children’s Learning Center staff as needed.
Participate and contribute to monthly team meetings and all full staff meetings.
Maintain a professional demeanor at all times and contribute to the upkeep of their personal space and shared workspace.
Collect, analyze, and synthesize comprehensive data pertinent to the student’s health or the situation to ensure the highest quality of health and educational services.
Perform one-time quarterly travel to other school facilities within the HKS - Children’s Learning Center network (internal audits).
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Principal or members of HKSB Administration.
