School Based Mental Health Therapist - Part Time

About The Position

This is a 10-month permanent position within the School Based Mental Health (SBMH) Program, a partnership between Polk County and local school districts. Staff are placed in schools to address barriers to student success, regardless of insurance or ability to pay. The SBMH Therapist provides short-term, evidence-based services including individual and group skill-building, emotional support, crisis intervention, and suicide assessments. They consult with families and school staff, connect students and families to community resources, and may conduct classroom presentations on various topics. Staff also assist with referring students to more intensive therapeutic services as needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling or related mental health field
  • Two years of experience in treating mental health disorders
  • One year in mental health outpatient treatment
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license and automobile insurance
  • Access to and use of a personal automobile as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Provide a range of short-term and evidence-based services, including individual and group skill-building, emotional support, crisis intervention and suicide assessments.
  • Consult with families and school staff to assist with connecting students and families to community resources.
  • Develop a range of skills which may include classroom presentations on character education, anti-bullying, problem solving, suicide prevention, or social skill development.
  • Work with students impacted by grief, anxiety, depression or behavior struggles, or students with goals around communication and increasing positive relationships.
  • Assist with referring students to more intensive therapeutic services according to the specific needs and challenges of individual students.
