About The Position

Volunteers of America (VOA) is seeking passionate, energetic, culturally humble therapists to partner with VOA High School to provide school-based mental health therapy to high school students at an alternative school setting based in Northeast Minneapolis. The school provides an alternative education to students who might not otherwise be able to complete their education in a traditional setting. The school staff focus on and value flexibility, teamwork and has a heavy focus in project based learning and nature based experiences. The school understands the importance of quality mental health care in their school community and are eager to welcome mental health providers to partner with their existing support staff for students including full time school social worker and school counselor. Provider would offer therapy services as an integral component of building safe and supportive schools to help meet student needs in a wholistic way.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree or PsyD/PhD in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling or Social Work
  • Working to obtain clinical contact and supervision hours to achieve Mental Health Professional licensure through the corresponding licensing Board requirements.
  • Licensed with a pre-professional license when the corresponding licensing Board requires it.
  • If licensed as Mental Health Practitioner or clinical trainee, must be on track towards independent clinical licensure.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with students and families of color, understanding of the impact of race and poverty upon students and families.
  • Previous clinical work in a school environment or setting
  • Licensed as a LICSW, LMFT, LPCC, or LP
  • 2 years: Clinical practice serving children and adolescents with ED and SED and their families

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive clinical diagnostic assessment, individual and family psychotherapy, and clinical management to address emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues of adolescent students.
  • Participate in case consultation and provide input to the multidisciplinary team, representing the disciplines of social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or clinical counseling in the client’s treatment plans.
  • Serve as an expert in the mental health of adolescents on the school's team.
  • Complete all related clinical documentation and data reporting for assigned clients in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Willingness to provide in-home therapy when needed.
  • Ability to provide day-to-day outreach in school to teachers regarding the emotional and behavioral needs of students.
  • Ability to provide presentations on topics related to mental health to school staff upon request.
  • Provide in-person services at the school and telemedicine services remotely, shifting between methods as determined by each school's learning model or client preference.
  • Collaborate with other service providers including opportunity to collaborate with internal VOA programs such as case management, high fidelity wraparound, and functional family therapy to provide system wide mental health services to clients and families.
