About The Position

Family Life Academy Charter School (FLACS) is a nonprofit network of high-performing charter schools in the South Bronx. FLACS is seeking dedicated and committed employees to serve as School Aides. Applicants must enjoy working in a busy school setting, be flexible and provide a positive and uplifting experience for students and staff. This is a full-time, 12-month position located in The Bronx, NYC. FLACS School Aides are responsible for a myriad of tasks and duties that support the effective operations of our schools.

Requirements

  • New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Qualifying Certificate in Food Protection preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be able to lift heavy boxes and food-related items
  • Fingerprints clearance with the NYS Dept. of Education
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to keep inventory of supplies on hand
  • Excellent time and attendance required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous related experience in food service a plus
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish a plus

Responsibilities

  • Supporting ingress and dismissal duty
  • Welcoming of teachers, students and parents
  • Assists with monitoring students boarding buses, ensuring that students board their designated buses for Bus Duty
  • Receiving, unpacking and verifying delivery quantities received from our food vendor and contacting the vendor if deliveries are insufficient
  • Preparing, heating and serving vendor prepared food to students
  • Supporting distribution of breakfast and lunch to students
  • Cleaning and disinfecting all food preparation tools, instruments, and equipment before and after use, following CDC, USDA and NYSED guidelines
  • Ensuring that all food surfaces and refrigerators are clean following CDC and HACCP recommendations for cleaning and disinfection
  • Keeping food meal counts of enrolled school families picking up food in accordance with NYSED Child Nutrition and USDA regulations.
  • Keeping daily count of how many meals were distributed and identifying waste
  • Performing clerical duties such as but not limited to: copying, faxing, filing, distributing teaching materials such as textbooks, paper, and workbooks, etc.
  • Performing duties to support preparation for special events and other school activities
  • Answering telephones, perform light reception work
  • Checking forms (Lunch, handbooks, school applications, etc)
  • Conducting an inventory of materials, supplies and equipment
  • Calling parents or vendors as needed
  • Willing to create nurturing and positive relationships with students and staff
