About The Position

The School Age Program Counselor facilitates active and passive programming for children in kindergarten through fifth grade in a safe, secure, and fun environment. The program promotes relationships with children and their families, engages children through developmentally appropriate activities, and emphasizes friendship, respect, and independent life skills.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age.
Good judgment in all situations.
Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of observing children and responding effectively to emergencies.

Nice To Haves

One to two years of work-related experience preferred.
CPR/First Aid certification preferred; training or certification will be provided as needed.
Understanding of Jewish customs or traditions, or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

Maintain an orderly and safe environment, never leave children unattended, and escort children to and from programming areas.
Remain fully engaged with the children and participate enthusiastically.
Help plan and fully implement lesson plans and activities.
Lead by example by treating others with respect.
Work effectively and professionally with co-workers.
Communicate effectively with parents during drop-off and pick-up, greeting them on arrival and acknowledging them as they leave.
Verify that all children are signed in and out of the program, regardless of age.
Bring concerns or problems raised by parents, members, or staff to the attention of the Director.
Work scheduled shifts and call a supervisor at least two hours in advance if absent or late.
Keep the room neat and tidy after activities and at the end of the day, directing children to help.
