About The Position

Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) is seeking a School Age Educator for their Northern Lights location in Keene, Ontario. This is a 30-hour per week position, Monday to Friday, with a split shift. The role involves working with children, families, and community partners to create enriching learning experiences based on children's interests. Additional hours are provided for program support, documentation, planning, team meetings, and professional development. The position transitions to full-time hours during PA Days, March Break, Winter Break, and Summer Camp periods. CELC has been a non-profit childcare organization in East-Central Ontario since 1981, with a mission to create nurturing environments and celebrate children's curiosity.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years’ experience working/volunteering with children and youth.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
  • Valid certifications, including a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, and updated immunization records.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators OR has a post-secondary degree in a similar field (i.e., Child and Youth Care, Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Work, Bachelor of Education, etc.) OR is interested in pursuing their ECE diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities that reflect children’s unique interests to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Maintain active supervision with children while still being engaged in play.
  • Document children’s learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions.
  • Create and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well-being of children.
  • Assist the children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits.
  • Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training opportunities.
  • Assist in housekeeping duties within the program.
  • Follow CELC, CCEYA, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.
