About The Position

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a School-Age Childcare Counselor for our After School Program at Booker T. Washington Elementary School for the 2026–2027 school year. This part-time, non-exempt position follows the school calendar and operates Monday - Friday, 2:30 PM - 6:00 PM. The role involves facilitating hands-on activities, providing a safe and fun environment, and acting as a positive role model for children aged 5-12. The ideal candidate loves working with children, brings energy and patience, encourages curiosity, creativity, and confidence, works well with teammates, and communicates effectively with families. Reliability, organization, and a commitment to exceptional care are essential. This position is well-suited for parents seeking a schedule aligned with the school day, education majors or future teachers, and retirees looking for active mentoring opportunities.

Requirements

  • 18 years or older and hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Medically cleared of any communicable diseases including TB.
  • Must be warm, friendly, and upbeat.
  • Exceptional people skills, professional, reliable, and prompt.
  • Physically able to bend, stretch, lift, carry (up to 50 lbs.), and maintain active supervision while participating in children's routines and activities.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience working with children under 13 years of age preferred

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum which includes fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities as well as homework completion.
  • Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment and acting as a positive role model for children in the program.
  • Observe state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
  • Support program operations, which may include attendance records, registration, and staffing responsibilities.
