About The Position

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring School-Age Childcare Counselors for their After School Programs within the Birmingham School District for the 2026–2027 school year. This role involves facilitating hands-on activities, providing a safe and fun environment, and acting as a positive role model for children aged 5-12. The position requires adherence to state and program guidelines, and may involve supporting program operations such as attendance records and registration. The ideal candidate loves working with children, brings energy and patience, encourages curiosity and creativity, works well with teammates, and communicates effectively with families. Reliability, organization, and a commitment to exceptional care are essential. This role is particularly suitable for parents seeking a schedule aligned with the school day, education majors, or retirees looking to mentor children.

Requirements

  • 18 years or older and hold a High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year of experience working with kids under 13 preferred
  • Required health clearance, including TB screening, in accordance with state regulations.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and reliability.
  • Physically able to bend, stretch, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds while actively engaging with children throughout the day.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum which includes fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities as well as homework completion.
  • Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment and acting as a positive role model for children in the program.
  • Observe state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
  • Support program operations, which may include attendance records, registration, and staffing responsibilities.
