About The Position

Join our professional and passionate team of early childhood educators! In this role, you will build healthy, strong, connected communities through nurturing environments for children. This position has a primary role as School Age Coordinator for the Humphrey YMCA After School Program and a secondary role as Registered Early Childhood Educator/Assistant Teacher at the Parry Sound High School YMCA Child Care.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Current Standard/Intermediate First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification OR completion of certification within first 90 days of employment
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Up-to-date immunizations or equivalent in accordance with local public health and Child Care Early Years Act
  • Availability requirements: Monday to Friday, 30-40 hours/week, approximately 2:30-6:00pm at Humphrey plus approximately 3 hours/day at Parry Sound HS between 7:00am-2:30pm
  • Passion for working with children and providing quality play-based learning
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills with families, staff and volunteers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), and participate in physical activities
  • Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round, in all weather conditions
  • Registered Early Childhood Educator Must be registered and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) or be willing to obtain registration
  • OR actively enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program
  • OR Child & Youth Work/Care Diploma
  • OR Rec & Leisure Diploma
  • OR Bachelor of Education must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers to be eligible

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to children, including but not limited to toileting/diaper changing, providing first aid, administering medication, monitoring dietary, allergies & medical conditions
  • Actively engage with children and always ensure supervision and safety of children in a group setting of up to 15 children independently
  • Plan and implement play-based learning in accordance with YMCA Curriculum
  • Ensure positive, professional communication with families, staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis
  • Provide an inclusive environment, supporting the needs of all children, including those with exceptional behaviours and additional needs
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values
  • Adhere to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provide adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
  • Demonstrate flexibility with routines and schedules
  • Maintain active and effective communication and information networks within the centre, the staff team and with community agencies working with individual children and families
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the regulations and operating standards and ensures centre is run in accordance with all directives, legislations, guidelines and policies.
  • Understand and mentor centre team providing strong leadership to implement a safe, accessible, quality, child-centered, early childhood program.
  • Give leadership to and works with centre staff to maintain a well organized, accessible, safe and clean child care facility including classrooms, playground, washrooms, cubicles and equipment.
  • Develop positive relationships and collaborative partnerships with families. Understand each family’s specific needs and plans for successful outcomes
  • Provide quality care to all children in a licensed childcare environment
  • Comply with the Child Care Early Years Act, YMCA policies and the YMCA Child Protection Policy
  • Other duties as assigned
