About The Position

The Lansdowne YMCA is seeking energetic, caring, and committed Out-of-School Time (OST) Staff for its Before and Aftercare program for the upcoming school year. This role involves leading morning activities to boost children's confidence and afternoon games, creative projects, and fostering a fun, energetic environment. The YMCA aims to build a safe, inclusive space where children feel supported, families feel connected, and staff feel proud of their impact. The philosophy is that children learn best through play and socialization. This is a part-time position, Monday through Friday, with shifts including Before Care (7:15 am - 8:30 am) and After Care (3:00 pm - 6:00 pm).

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years (2500 hours) documented experience working with children.
  • Strong Leadership and Communication Skills.
  • A commitment to continuous quality program improvements.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid certification within 15 days of hire.
  • Completion of required trainings, attaining all trainings as required by the Community YMCA, the center’s Keystone STARS level and DHS within the required timeframe.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred CDA, Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related human services field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing and evaluating the daily operations of the Child Care classroom in conjunction with the Child Care Parent Handbook and Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Uphold the YMCA Mission at all times, focusing on the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Utilize the current PA Early Learning Standards to plan, implement, assess, and evaluate daily classroom operations, using child needs and assessments as a guide.
  • Offer activities that meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of each individual child, establishing goals, maintaining child portfolios, and implementing culturally diverse experiences.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children on a daily basis, ensuring the classroom environment and outdoor areas are well supervised and in good condition.
  • Use positive guidance techniques outlined in the parent handbook, incorporating YMCA values when working with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with families, keeping parents/guardians informed about the child’s growth and development, offering family resources, and utilizing all communication resources.
  • Ensure Aides are included in the planning, implementing, and evaluation of daily program activities.
  • Maintain all paperwork (attendance, developmental screenings, child assessments, accident/incident reports, monthly reports, annual professional goals and assessments) and submit to the Child Care Office in a timely manner.
  • Attend all staff meetings and family events as instructed by the Center Director.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude that reflects the YMCA at all times, upholding policies outlined in the YMCA Personnel Policy handbook and Child Care Parent Handbook.
  • Perform Group Supervisor duties in their absence.
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
