About The Position

Associated Recreation Council (ARC), in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, is seeking a School-Age Care Lead Counselor for Thornton Creek Elementary School. This role involves guiding and supporting a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment. ARC's programs aim to provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
  • Must have a year of prior experience in school-age childcare.
  • MMR vaccination record, tuberculosis (TB) testing, MERIT Portable Background Check, and Washington State Food Worker Card are required after being hired as required by the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF).

  • Experience in a licensed program.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
  • Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
  • Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
  • Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff.
  • Receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.
  • Directly supports the School-Age Care Director in more advanced daily operations with greater responsibilities.
