About The Position

Associated Recreation Council (ARC) is seeking a School-Age Care Counselor to join their team in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation. This role involves guiding and supporting a classroom of children ages 5-12 by providing active supervision, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment. ARC's programs aim to provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play, and grow.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a high school diploma or other secondary education.
  • Experience working with school-age children ages 5-12.
  • Ability to create engaging experiences that support children's learning, development, and well-being.
  • Ability to provide active supervision.
  • Ability to implement developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Ability to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging after-school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists and leads in the application of daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old.
  • Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth.
  • Helps ensure a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and always accounted for.
  • Collaborates with and supports fellow School-Age Care staff and receives guidance, coaching, and direction from the ARC School-Age Care Director.
