About The Position

We are looking for Summer 2027 Interns! Fay, S&B USA Construction builds complex infrastructure across the Mid-Atlantic such as major bridges, tunnels, highways, and P3 programs that demand technical depth and strong field leadership. Our interns are assigned meaningful duties, which help advance the efforts of the company and give the students a broad introduction to the field of Civil Engineering.

Requirements

  • Completion of one year in a Civil Engineering, General Engineering or Construction Management degree program
  • Excellent Computer and Communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Learn about Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling and the Longest Path to complete a project.
  • Develop a basic schedule with a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for a 3-span bridge.
  • Assign logic ties / establish relationships between activities to determine the overall project duration.
  • Learn how to develop, organize, and update CPM schedules for Fay bid pursuits and active contracts.
  • Learn how to develop Calendars in P6 to identify workdays vs non work days assumed for various work activities scheduled.
  • Learn how to allocate Resources (labor, material, equipment) required to accomplish work activities in P6. Resource management.
  • Review Request for Proposal (RFP) bid plans, design documents, and Department of Transportation (DOT) provisions / specifications to prepare Bid Schedules.
  • Identify Key Milestone Dates and associated incentives / disincentives.
  • Coordinate with Fay Estimating and Operations to determine Key Schedule Assumptions.
  • Determine the number and types of crews to construct the project.
  • Determine the equipment necessary to construct the project.
  • Review production data to determine available shifts to complete project work.
  • Determine supplier lead times for key project materials.
  • Assist in developing summary schedules for board presentations.
  • Visit job sites to observe in-progress construction work. Observe crews, equipment, and construction means/methods.
  • Become familiar with heavy civil engineering and construction terminology.
  • Assist with the development of Baseline Schedules for newly awarded contracts.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule updates.
  • Attend schedule update meetings to collaborate with project managers and engineers.
  • Prepare PDF schedule reports.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly schedule narrative reports.
