About The Position

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing coordination activities related to patient scheduling and performing tasks and support functions under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The Cardiovascular department utilizes computer systems to run requested reports for physicians, administration and quality initiatives. The role involves ordering stock and non-stock supplies, assisting in monitoring KanBan inventory management, stocking rooms, reviewing and updating procedural schedules daily, responding to real/potential problems related to procedural schedules, referring conflicts and procedural questions to the Manager or Supervisor, entering call personnel in the “Person On Call” computer program, and assisting with preparing and publishing staff schedules. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Two years of health care and/or secretarial experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Ability to work in close proximity to others
  • Manages anger/fear/hostility

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assisting Diploma, Associate of Applied Science Degree preferred
  • Medical Terminology strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Receives and handles telephone communications accurately and timely
  • Coordinates scheduling patients
  • Completes data entry from procedural records in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Implements changes and assists with revisions on patient orders and requests
  • Organizes and prioritizes daily work effectively
  • Receives and directs visitors within the department as indicated
  • Navigates the electronic medical record efficiently, orders procedures and locates documentation as necessary
  • Promotes a positive and professional image, collaborates with healthcare team including physicians, nurses and discharge planners
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries
  • Utilizes computer systems to run requested reports for physicians, administration and quality initiatives
