Responsible for patient scheduling, pre-registration and insurance authorization for the outpatient departments. This role involves responding to calls from patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, determining the urgency of situations, and suggesting appropriate referrals. The Scheduler will answer telephones, prioritize, screen, and redirect calls, answer questions, handle routine matters, and take messages. A key responsibility is scheduling all appointments for patients using the SMS scheduling system and ensuring these goals are met. The role also includes mailing appointment confirmation letters, providing information about tests and necessary preparation if the appointment is more than three days out. Completing all types of outpatient registrations accurately and professionally is essential, as is obtaining necessary information from patient health insurance or managed care identification cards. Maintaining forms in printers, which may involve lifting or carrying, and possessing knowledge of all software and hardware computerized equipment are also part of the duties. The Scheduler will work with individual physician offices to obtain correct information for scheduling appointments. The position may involve performing work of equal or higher skill and responsibility as directed. Attending all required safety training programs and understanding responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards is mandatory. Following hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens is required. Demonstrating respect and regard for the dignity of all individuals and promoting effective working relations within and between departments are crucial for creating a professional and courteous environment.
